About The Beautiful Ashes

In a world of shadows, anything is possible. Except escaping your fate.

But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse—her hallucinations are real, and her sister is trapped in a parallel realm. And the one person who believes her is the dangerously attractive guy who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

Adrian might have turned his back on those who raised him, but that doesn’t mean he can change his fate…no matter how strong a pull he feels toward Ivy. Together they search for the powerful relic that can save her sister, but Adrian knows what Ivy doesn’t: that every step brings Ivy closer to the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could doom the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side and Adrian on the other. And nothing but ashes in between…

“What is that?”

Adrian’s voice startled me. For a second, I was disoriented, the dream clinging to me as it always did. Yes, I was in a car, but I wasn’t the unknown woman driving away from her baby. That wasn’t real. The glare Adrian leveled at my chest was, though.

“Is that a mirror?” He sounded horrified.

I looked down. My locket was open, the mirrored side facing me. At some point while I was sleeping, I must’ve opened it. Adrian’s hand shot out, but this time, I was too fast for him.

“Don’t you dare,” I snapped, holding it out of his reach. “It’s the only picture I have of my sister after you left everything I own back at that hotel in Bennington!”

He lunged again, actually letting go of the steering wheel to reach the side of the car where I held it. With a sharp yank, he wrested the locket from my hands. I tried to snatch it back, but he shoved me into my seat with one hand, finally grabbing the steering wheel with the other.

“Are you crazy?” I shrieked. “You could’ve gotten us killed!” If this hadn’t been a lonely stretch of desert road, our careening into the next lane might’ve had permanent consequences.

“You’re going to get yourself killed,” was his chilling response. Then, still pinning me to my chair with that single hand, he held my locket up.

I gasped. Something dark poked out of the small mirror, like a snake made of blackest smoke. It disappeared when Adrian smashed the mirror against the steering wheel, but an eerie wind whistled through the car, ruffling my hair and stinging my nostrils with its acrid scent.

Adrian muttered a word in that unknown language, and I didn’t need a translator to tell me it was a curse.

“What was that?” My voice was hoarse.

He threw me a pitying glance, which frightened me even more. If he wasn’t angry, we must really be screwed.

His next words proved that. “Brace yourself, Ivy. You’re about to meet a demon.”

Title: Eyes of the Woods

Author: Eden Fierce

Age Group: YA

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Cover Designer: Okay Creations, Sarah Hansen

Eris Helgren knew her life was about to end. A daughter of the Priory–a generations-old family who protected their territories from nightwalkers–Eris was strong and independent. But on her birthday, her father would announce her betrothal. A year later, she would be forced to marry.

What Eris didn’t know was that the very beings she hunted were watching her, and that being tamed wasn’t what would kill her after all.

In a land where the woods were forbidden and the laws meant life, Eris will have to make a decision that could bring peace between enemies, or war among friends.

The Priory was all that was familiar to me. No matter how much blood we shed, how many lives we watched slip away, or how many mornings I spent wondering if I would go to Hell for what I’d done, it was my calling.

The sunset before me was beautiful, unlike any other. Without knowing why, I took a moment to appreciate the orange and pinks swirling in the sky as the burned circle sizzled against the horizon. Our lands were the most beautiful of the six territories the Priory guarded, and also the most dangerous. My father led the people of Ona, the oldest of them all.

Glass clinked together downstairs, and the noise snapped me back to reality. It was likely Father, already awake and organizing supplies. Father was respected, admired, and feared, and as many nights as I had spent watching him slay monsters, I didn’t question the devotion that Onans felt for him. After all, I felt the same.

My father was the strongest man I knew, and often I wondered if he would live forever. Nearly seventeen, and standing five foot eight, I was strong and tall for a girl. Father still towered over me, his burly arms thicker than my waist.

The sun slipped behind the snowcapped mountains in the distance, and my fingers began to twitch. Sunset meant time for hunting—a duty I tried to love but secretly despised, almost as much as the extravagant red gown worn by the metal dress form in the middle of my bedroom. The layers of scarlet fabric had been taunting me for weeks, creating a fury inside me that multiplied every time I laid eyes upon it.

Seventeen meant many things. More freedom, more respect, but it also meant the announcement of a young Onan woman’s betrothal, and there was a loathing inside me that I had never sensed before. As was customary, Father hadn’t yet told me whom he’d chosen. His faith to the tradition was just as well; knowing would make me dread it all the more.

I had as much enthusiasm for being promised to a man as I did for killing.. It all felt like chains, weighing me down and holding me back from being whom I was meant to be—whoever that was.

I crept from my bed and padded down the hall in my bare feet to wake my brothers. They more than accepted our station, relishing the advantages that being Priory brought, and who could blame them?

Everyone who lived in the clearings along the edges of the vast forests that made up our lands daydreamed about what it would be like to be a Prior. Old women wished for their daughters to marry into our family, and young men sang songs about dreams of being born into the Priory. They all sought to be one of us. Everyone but me.

rival love

Summary from Goodreads:

Skylar Fletcher is a proud Harris Academy Bulldog! She has everything she’s ever wanted: a perfect boyfriend, great friends, and her dream college waiting for her in the fall. But nothing lasts forever. Skylar’s world shatters when her mom decides it is time to move and drags Skylar, kicking and screaming, into Bobcat territory.

At Delmont High School, home of the Bobcats, Skylar has no friends and is often bullied. To make matters worse, her home life sucks thanks to all-star quarterback Caleb Morgan, nephew of her mom’s live-in boyfriend.

At first Skylar and Caleb want nothing to do with one another. But they soon discover they’re not that different after all–and each is harbouring a secret attraction to the other. But can a Bulldog and a Bobcat ever really be more than friends? And are Skylar and Caleb willing to risk everything to find out? Rival Love is a debut young adult contemporary romance from Natalie Decker.

“Let’s get this shit over with.” I march forward. Once I’m halfway to the doors, I glance back. She’s actually following. A permanent scowl is on her face, but I don’t really give a crap about that.

Opening the side door, I wait for her. I should slam it in her face, but I don’t. A part of me knows how much this must suck for her. The other part wants her to be so freaking miserable it isn’t funny. Especially, after she decided to go all dog and bite me. Crazy bitch.

I glance down at her schedule and make my way through the long hallway then up the flight of stairs labeled “C wing.” Up on the third floor, we walk down two more halls and I stop at room 310. “Here’s where your social psychology class is, hopefully you learn something in there.”

She curls her upper lip and mouths, “Hopefully you learn something.”

“Right. Moving on to your next class.”

We work our way over to the next flight of stairs and head down to the basement floor. Over in the E wing, at room 12, I chuckle. “And this is Italian IV.” Of course she’d take Italian for four years. So she’s one of those stuck-up, wannabe chicks who dreams of going abroad and sucking down wine all day. Dream on, girl, dream on.

“What’s so funny about taking Italian?”

I’m not answering her stupid question. If she wants to take the most pointless language on the planet, that’s her choice. With a schedule like hers I don’t know why she’s not taking Chinese or freaking Japanese.

She taps her foot. “Well?”

I shake my head. “When are you going to use it?”

“When I go to Italy with my dad next summer. Any more questions you want to ask me?”

I can see the challenge in her eyes. She wants me to mock her again so she can twist it around and make me look like a dipshit. I sort of feel like one, but it’s not enough to stop me from asking her, “Why don’t you live with him?”

She looks down at the tiled floor and sighs audibly. “He’s a professor in New York. He’s constantly working—lectures, papers, whatever.” She bites her lower lip and looks away.

“So you believe he’s too busy for you?”

Skylar shrugs. “It doesn’t matter. Can we not talk about my dad right now?” She stalks off and it makes me curious. What’s she hiding?

I could pry but then that would leave a door open for her to do the same. My own past is a closed door, and won’t be revisited any time soon. So instead of questioning her more, we continue down the hall in silence. Working my way to the B wing of the building, I zigzag us through different halls until we reach room 204. “Civics is here and two doors down is World Literature.” I can’t believe we’ve got these two classes together. I’m not about to tell her either, who knows what stupid shit she might pull next.

In silence, we make our way back to the basement area and into the commons. “This is the lunch area. Over there”—I point to the right, away from the large open space filled with round tables and chairs—“that’s the new gym. And over to the left behind that oval glass window is the pool. Of course you know that.”

She nods. “Yeah. What’s next?”

“Do you want to see the pool?”

Stripping the Billionaire2

Author: Noelle Adams

Title: Stripping The Billionaire (Heirs Of Damon #4)

Release Date: September 9th, 2014

About Stripping The Billionaire:

For the last eight months, Mandy has lived across the hall from a caveman.

He won’t trim his beard, he mostly talks in grunts, and he’ll hardly emerge from his cave of an apartment. Ben might be a grumpy mess, but she kind of likes him anyway. She’s not attracted to him, of course. Not at all. Those stray feelings are merely a fluke. She’s looking for a man who has it all together, and Ben isn’t even close.

Benjamin Damon is heir to a billion-dollar corporate empire, but he has put his family and that whole lifestyle behind him. No one knows who he is now—not even his pretty princess of a neighbor who refuses to leave him alone.

When she ropes him into taking her with him to work on his mother’s historic Savannah home, he knows it’s a mistake. Mandy represents the world he’s tried so hard to escape, and he can’t let one woman strip him of the new man he’s tried to become. The more he’s with her, though, the more he wants her. Despite his best efforts, he’s falling for her hard—and dreading the day she finds out all of his lies.

Pre-order: Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes

“What are you staring at, Cupcake?” he muttered, radiating more tension than ever.

And she was even drawn to his tension. What the hell was happening to her?

She wanted a good-looking, well-dressed man who had things together and was ready to be a husband. None of that was Ben.

To hide her response, she gave him a teasing grin. “Nothing. I’m just wondering if you’re hiding some sort of lost love behind all your grumpy muttering.”

“I’m not hiding any sort of love.” He was frowning, gruff, covered with hair. It was ridiculous that she was attracted to him.

Before she knew what she was doing, she stretched up to press a kiss just on the side of his mouth. His beard was scratchy under her lips but not unpleasant.

She wanted to kiss him again.

She felt his body tighten even more, and his arms jerked strangely.

She stepped back, flushing and horribly embarrassed.

God, she was an idiot. She’d made him uncomfortable, since their friendship had never allowed any sort of kissing.

“What was that for?” he demanded, his eyes searching her face strangely, like he might have suspected she was feeling in ways that were very inappropriate.

The last thing she wanted to do was get in the way of their friendship—one that meant a lot more to her than she’d realized until recently—with some stray, irrational lusts that could never turn into something serious.

So she managed a light grin and said, “That was because you’re pretty cute for a Neanderthal.”

Three years ago, conservative Trey Chapman and liberal Monica Remy met their match in one another – and made the only exception that would change their lives forever.

Now, Trey’s father is running for president, forcing Trey and Monica to put aside their personal beliefs to be the model of perfection.

But fate has other ideas, casting the family in scandal.

Some seek to use that disgrace to further their family legacy, while others refuse to let go of the past. Trey and Monica soon find themselves lost among questions that challenge their true feelings. Will they be able to rediscover that the only answer lies with one another, or will they lose each other forever?

The cabin John’s family owned wasn’t as big as the one my parents owned on Lake Michigan, but what it lacked in size it made up for in entertaining area. There were seven of us: John’s brother Ben, his brother-in-law Mark, and our fraternity brothers Brad, Gabe, and Short Stack. We were huddled around the sixty-four-inch TV that was installed above a brick fireplace. The room was equipped with surround sound, leather couches, and enough alcohol to probably kill a small animal.

I was fine with that. I would rather just hang out than be at some overcrowded bar while girls tried to grind on me. I’d had my fair share of that in college when I attempted to go to parties at our fraternity house or the few times I ended up at the bar with John as his designated driver. I would have rather been at home with Monica any time.

A loud knock came at the door. I guessed pizza or something. John’s sister had only sent a few bags of chips and some guacamole. That’s as far as food went.

“Hey Chapman, since you’re not playing can you get that?” Ben asked.

“Sure.” I stood up and walked the few feet to the front door.

Upon opening it my eyes widened when a woman with bright blonde hair in a police uniform stood at the door. She was wearing a pair of aviators that she promptly whipped off and showed heavily made up eyes. “Excuse me, I received a call about a noise complaint?” She put her sunglasses in the front of her shirt that was way too low and cleavage-baring for someone who represented the law.

“Oh. I’m sorry, ma’am. It’s my friend’s bachelor party. I’ll tell them to keep it down.” She smiled slightly and shaking her head. “A polite one, eh? I like that.”

“You’re welcome.” It was all I could think of to say. I’d never actually had an altercation with the police so I wasn’t sure what I should say or do.

“But you’ve been naughty and I think it’s time for you and the rest of these boys to be punished.” She stormed inside, slamming the door behind her.

My eyes widened and everything moved too fast for me to even react any farther. The sound went down on the TV behind me and I heard someone yell something about a stripper as the pseudo-police officer pulled an iPod out of the pocket of her short shorts and pressed it so that the theme from Cops blared from the speakers. She tossed the phone behind me and I heard someone catch it. She then put one hand on my shoulder and used the other hand to rip open her button down shirt, exposing a very large pair of breast with pierced nipples that had tiny tassels dangling from the hoops.

“Go Chapman!” someone else yelled.

The topless girl pushed me back and I fell onto a chair I didn’t know was there. As soon as I sat down, she tossed her shirt to someone behind her then slipped off her shorts, tossing those as well. She stood there just wearing those nipple rings and a pair of white panties that had the words #bachelorparty printed across it.

“Chapman? That’s your name?” she purred, swaying her hips back and forth.

“I like a man with a good strong, name. Hope your body’s just as strong.” She slid onto my lap. I’m not sure where her legs went, but all I could focus on was the way her body moved on my lap. I was trying not to stare, but the rings were dangling in my face and she was twisting and turning so lithe that I didn’t know what she was going to do next.

Slowly she leaned forward, putting her lips to my ear. “Mr. Chapman, I think your phone is vibrating, unless you’ve brought something else to the party.”

“Uh, no, that’s probably my phone.” I scrambled, reaching in my pocket for my phone. I would have thought that would have given her the hint to slide off of me but instead she turned around and spread my legs, sliding her body up and down between me. The guys were hollering so loud behind me, I could barely make out what they were saying or anything else going on.

But my attention was definitely brought back to the moment when I saw the name on my phone: Monica. She was out at Melanie’s bachelorette party, I didn’t know why she would be calling. My first thought was that she got sick and I needed to pick her up so I needed to answer immediately.

I unlocked my phone and slid it to my ear. “Hey, what’s going on, are you okay?”

Her voice was jumbled. Static-y. I could barely make out what she was saying. I thought since there was a great Internet connection for gaming, my cell service would be the same.

“Monica? Monica? Can you hear me?”

The stripper bounced on my lap and reached out for my phone. “Is that the new wifey? Lemme tell her what a bad boy you’ve been.”

I dipped to the left, avoiding her long nails. “Yes, it’s my future wife.”

“Trey? Hello? Who is that?” Monica’s words were scrambled but it was pretty loud and clear that she heard the stripper.

“Hold on.” I put my phone to my chest and looked straight at the girl on my lap. Not at the damn tassels or her underwear, but in her overly done up eyes that were staring at me like there was nothing up in her big blonde head. “Ma’am, I appreciate that you have a job to do but I’m not the bachelor at this party and my fiancée needs to speak to me. If you could please hop on down and go sit on John’s lap it would be greatly appreciated.”

She didn’t say anything. She just stared at me open mouthed as I quickly sat up and she practically fell off my lap instead of just standing like I asked her to. I took my phone and ran out the back patio door, hoping I could get a better signal there.

“Monica? Are you there? Can you hear me?”

“Trey. Internet. Bar. Pregnant.” It was all I could understand in the jumbled mess. Her voice was frantic and that’s all I could get. Whatever those four words meant, it couldn’t be good and I knew I had to go back to her.

Undeniably You – Jewel E. Ann Q&A and REVIEW

Undeniably You banner

Q&A With Undeniably You Author Jewel E. Ann

1. How did you get your start as an author?

The idea has been in the back of my mind for years. My mom imagined me being the next Erma Bombeck, so I’ve always had the encouragement behind me. I do love humour, but ultimately I’m a sucker for a good love story. Enter E.L James. Yes, I’m a Fifty fanatic and it started an addiction. Eventually my best friend and my sister convinced me to put my imagination into writing. The Holding You Series was the result, and even today, I’m not sure where I channelled that alter ego/sexy personality from which the story line flowed.

2. What talent would you most like to have?

I’d love to have musical talent. Music inspires my writing and I think it would be amazing if my writing could inspire music someday.

3. If you had a super power, what would it be? And if you had to give it up to save buffalo, NY, would you explain to buffalo that they were going to die?

Hmm … that’s a hard question. I’ve never been to Buffalo 🙂 My super power would be the power to heal. Yes, I’d take the leap of faith that Buffalo is worth saving and I’d give up my super power. However, if I weren’t willing to give up my given super power, then I would chose mind manipulation which would make the need to “explain” to Buffalo their impending death unnecessary.

4. How important are names to you in this book? Did you choose them based on sound or meaning?

My sister came up with Sydney Ann Montgomery, Sam, based on the initials and the sound. I named Lautner Asher Sullivan. Lautner is not a common first name in books so the uniqueness appealed to me. I like “Sully” as a nickname and could easily imagine it for a football player so that’s how I came up with Sullivan. Asher is the only name with real meaning. Asher, meaning “happy and blessed” is the name of my third child. The rest of my characters are just random and whatever sounds good at the moment I introduce them into the story. For the most part I like to write on the fly.

5. How did you come up with the idea for this story?

Undeniably You is dedicated to my sister because she had the idea of a book starting with a wedding and flashbacks to it throughout the book. She had a few other ideas, some of which are incorporated into the story. I was nervous writing it because I wanted to meet or exceed the expectations she had concocted in her head. My only goal beyond that was to write something that had a sexy humorous feel to it.

Sydney Ann Montgomery, (SAM) for short, so you don’t think that the editors missed a name change somewhere along the lines like I did, has her life planned out. She is going to realize all the dreams her mother didn’t in choosing family over career when Sydney was born. However, a masters or preferably a doctorate will not come cheap so she opts to house sit in between undergrad and post graduate studies. Before she is set to take a job in Paris she agrees to house-sit for her aunt and uncle in Palo Alto, California. It’s a win win situation, great accommodations and close to her sister in Los Angeles.

Lautner Sullivan, in a case of mistaken identity, arrives at the house Sydney is staying at and is utterly captivated by her however he is not the only one. Dr. Dane Abbot is also taken with Sydney when she brings Swarley, the Weimaraner she is charged with caring for in her aunt and uncle’s absence, to the his office when his distress over the departure of his family manifests in gastric upset all over the house.

In his poem To A Mouse, Robert Burns perfectly captures the essence of Sydney’s conflict in Undeniably You.

“The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
For promised joy.” (39-42)

So determined to fulfill the unrecognized dreams of her deceased mother Sydney is unable to recognize the opportunities at hand. Undeniably You was not what I expected, the fun, flirty cover put me in mind of a chick lit type summer romp. Perhaps the grown up, and naughty equivalent of a Meg Cabot and for the first 50% of the book that is pretty much exactly what it was. At this point the sea change was dramatic and marked but that is not necessarily a bad thing it was simply surprising but once I accepted that Undeniably You had hidden depths closer to a dramedy than the fluffy ultimately forgettable read the cover might suggest instead I found a deeply enjoyable story.
