Sometimes you just need to return to your roots, your preferred reading roots that is. No, I am not reverting to Danielle Steele that would be symptomatic of a more serious problem. Heart of the Diamond by Carrie Brock satisfied my desire to return to my Regency romance reading days.
The story opens with Lady Nicole Langley scaling the garden lattice to her childhood love’s bedchamber. Nicki has been reduced to desperate measures to avoid an arranged marriage particularly when she has saved herself these last six years for her beloved Teddy. Rather than her Teddy, Nicki has been lured into a trap by a handsome stranger.
Blake Dylan, The Earl of Diamond, has a heart of ice. The time has come for him to return to England and enact his plan of vengeance, even if it means wedding the daughter of his sworn enemy.
Lady Nicole Langley has vowed she will not marry unless for true love. When she is lured into a compromising situation with a handsome stranger her worst nightmare begins.
Now, to save them both, Nicki must wage a campaign to win the heart of the Diamond.
Despite the rather incongruous title I enjoyed Heart of the Diamond. The story was elegant in its simplicity with likable characters and enough plot twists to keep the reader engaged. This novel is a solid addition to the genre and I look forward to reading her work in the future.
