‘Tis the holiday season and what better way to spend it than to stay with the man you are in love with …and his girlfriend? Lying Season, Karina Halle‘s fifth offering opens immediately after the near disastrous trip to Vancouver. Following their latest near death experience on D’arcy Island Perry Palomino has realized, perhaps a bit late but better than never, that the threats posed by the supernatural entities that they are pursuing are real and that she needs to be physically prepared for these encounters no matter how many bootcamps she does it will not prepare her for what Seattle has in store. She is also trying to come to terms with the sizzling attraction between herself and her unavailable partner Dex.
Amateur ghost-hunter Perry Palomino has battled ghosts, fought off skinwalkers and skirted the fine line between life and death. But can she survive bunking down in Seattle for a week with her partner (and man she secretly loves) Dex and his perfect girlfriend, Jennifer? And can she do so while being tormented by a malicious spirit from Dex’s increasingly shady past? With love and life in the balance, Perry must discover the truth among the lies or risk losing everything she’s ever cared about.
In Lying Season we are introduced to the mysterious Wine Babe Jennifer who seems to have a hold on Dex despite his apparent connection to Perry. We are also reacquainted with Jimmy, the man in charge at Shownet who determines the fate of the still fragile Experiment in Terror franchise. Overall Lying Season is more character driven than the past entries and we are given more insight into Dex’s life away from Perry and the depth of the secrets he is keeping.
With each offering in the Experiment in Terror series the intensity ratchets up leaving the reader on tenterhooks between the increasing personal threat by the entities they are searching for and the electric connection between these unlikely partners, not to mention the challenge of other ghost hunters usurping on Shownet’s territory. Of course with this level of tension the story could only end with a cliffhanger so have On Demon Wings ready as soon as you turn the last page.
